New Oldie (2021)
Written for L’ Ensemble de Musique Contemporaine, Conservatoire de Musique de Rimouski.
Supported by the Australian Government’s Regional Arts Fund.
'New Oldie' relates two pieces of 19th-century parlour music from across the world; the Sylvandale Schottische from Tasmania, Australia, and the Quebec Schottische from Quebec, Canada. Over three short sections, material from the two older works is atomised, abstracted, and dispersed among the instruments, the ideas scattered into a new context.
for oboe, clarinet, alto saxophone, horn, violin and de-tuned (honky-tonk) piano
